Our Founding and Success Meeting Initial Challenges

The Launch of Our First Product, Pillar Packing No. 1

    • 1924

    • Founder Kaju Iwanami devised an alloy pillar packing (Patented Pillar Packing
      No. 1) for cylinder-ground marine reciprocating engines and established Pillar Factory (private enterprise)

    • 1926

    • Relocated the Pillar Factory to 2-56 Nonakaminami-dori, Yodogawa-ku, Osaka and began production of Pillar Packing No. 1

      Began full-fledged production of industrial-use sealing packings (No. 1)

    • 1927

    • Began production and sales of No. 100 Series CRUPP PACKING (free size)

    • 1930

    • Pillar packing registered as a new design patent

    • 1932

    • Began production of gaskets for automobiles and onshore and offshore engines

      Established the Kobe Branch Office to promote sales in the Kobe area

    • 1938

    • Designated as a cooperating factory to complement the domestic mass production of automobiles, particularly that of Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. (now Toyota Motor Corporation)

    • 1939

    • Constructed a new factory for manufacturing gaskets for automobiles

    • 1948

    • Reorganized as a joint-stock company in line with expansion of the business and established as Nippon Pillar Packing Co., Ltd.

      Manufactured a foil winding machine and began production and sales of semi-metallic braided gland packing (for steam valves/reciprocating shafts and clear water/seawater pumps)

    • 1951

    • Developed and began production of a mechanical seal (shaft sealing device) for the first time in Japan

    • 1952

    • Established a new factory and research laboratory

      Developed a vertical gasket for high -temperatures and, high -pressures

      Began production of fluorine plastic products (series name: PILAFLON™)

    • 1953

    • All gaskets for use by Toyota, Nissan, and Isuzu certified by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) as Grade A Recommended Automotive Parts

    • 1954

    • Began production and sales of the No. 5000 series of mechanical seals for water and oil

    • 1956

    • Began production and sales of mass-production mechanical seals for household pumps

    • 1957

    • Developed and began full-fledged production and sales of PILAFLON™ packing, gaskets, diaphragms, bearings, etc.
